What is ArtSTART?

ArtSTART is run by Evanga Studios www.evangastudios.co.uk which is owned by Donna Vokes. ArtSTART is a project running under the umbrella of Evanga Studios, that provides art workshops for young people and their families after school and at weekends.

Artstart provides a supportive environment in Hampshire, designed to allow all family members, adults and children get involved in creating artwork through hands on experience in art, craft and design.

ArtStart offers – Saturday art workshops running throughout the year – after school clubs in primary schoolsSchool workshops with a visiting artist and workshops in the community for groups such as Brownies, Guides, Cub & scout groups, and charity fundraising events.

Goals for individual participants:

  • Artistic Development: ArtSTART provides opportunities for individual creative growth. As the artist works, he or she changes and progresses. There is no limit to the level of expressive accomplishment a person can achieve.
  • Creation of work of high artistic merit: Each person no matter how limited intellectually, emotionally or physically, is capable of artistic achievement at some level.
  • Enhancement of self esteem: Through their ability to express themselves, artists develop a positive self image. Recognition of their artistic efforts by others who see their work displayed in the gallery and other venues give feelings of worth that carry over into other aspects of daily life.
  • Strengthening of ability of make decisions for oneself: Making decisions about creating a work of art is encouraged and respected. The artist must constantly make artistic choices as to subject matter, design and techniques.
  • Expression of inner feelings and moods: Artists may express their inner conflicts, dreams and fantasies. This act can help the artist understand and deal with these feeling’s.
  • Improvement of communication skills and co ordination: Each person is encouraged to express his /her feelings in verbal communications. Hand-Eye co ordination is improved through constant practice in painting, ceramics, print making and other art media.
